N'étant pas tenus de croire que Salomon fût mathématicien, il nous est permis d'affirmer qu'il ignorait le rapport de la circonférence au diamètre du cercle & pensait avec la foule des ouvriers qu'ils sont l'un à l'autre comme 3 à 1; que si l'on peut dire que nous n'entendons pas le texte du livre I des Rois (VII.23), alors, en vérité, je ne sais pas ce que nous pouvons connaître par l'Écriture; car la construction est simplement décrite en cet endroit & d'une façon purement historique.
